Alert Level 3 Schooling
From the announcement today alert level 3 schooling will continue as is until we hear anything different. Thank you to everyone for supporting your child and your child’s teacher during alert level 3 schooling. These are challenging times for everyone and we will continue to support anyone who needs it.
Year 6 Camp
With today’s announcement about the uncertainty around primary schools in Auckland being able to safely return to school within a set time frame, we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel our Year 6 camp. We know that while this news may not come as a surprise, it will still come as a huge disappointment to our students. Our Year 6 teachers worked very hard to put this camp together and we too feel disappointed with the outcome. We hope that at some point this term we will be able to get back to school and find a way of enjoying some time together as a team before our students move onto Year 7.
Changes To Our Distance Learning Programme
We know from previous lockdowns that the most important factor during this time is wellbeing for students and families. Experience has shown that learning recovers over time. However, with this lockdown being extended longer than we had initially hoped, we have had to reflect on our approach.
We have made some changes to our distance learning programme to provide more opportunities for students to focus on learning. Across the school, our daily Zooms will now have a learning focus for the day. Please see below for the arrangements for each team. Zooms will be extended so that students have the opportunity to workshop with teachers to support their learning. Friday Zooms will continue to be a fun Friday and the teacher will let your child know what will be happening each week. We know that our students crave this social contact with their classmates and it is important for maintaining relationships.
If you would like more learning material, we highly recommend you print off one of our booklets. There are new printable hard packs on the website and have been added for Term 4. If you don’t have a printer available these could also be viewed on a screen and completed on paper.
Some of you may be aware that the Ministry of Education supplies schools with hard packs for home learning. The Ministry of Education has prioritised Deciles 1-3 Auckland schools, once demand is met, they will then focus on Deciles 4-7 schools. We are a decile 10 school, so not much hope in receiving these packs.

Team Te Ohanga Term 4 Home Learning
The Learning Timetable will continue to be uploaded on a Sunday for the upcoming week. This can be found on our Distance Learning Website on the Team Te Ohanga Page.
Team Te Ohanga will continue a daily Zoom at 9.00am to approximately 9.30am each weekday. Your child’s classroom teacher will share the Zui/Zoom link along with any details specific to their classroom. Each day there will be a short lesson based on one of the learning activities from the daily timetable and Friday will have more fun and social focus.
For our daily Zui/Zoom classes, it is helpful if your child has all of the following items:
- A pencil and paper for writing – a whiteboard and whiteboard marker is preferable if you have one at home (could also use your homework or poem book)
- Colouring items such as felts, coloured pencils or Jovis to draw with and paper
Your child’s teacher will also let you know prior to Zoom if there is anything specific needed for the lesson.
If you would like more learning material, we highly recommend you print off one of our Emergent or Early Level 1 booklets. There are printable hard packs on the website and have been added for Term 4. If you don’t have a printer available these could also be viewed on a screen and completed on paper.
Please continue to share your child’s work with their teacher so that they can respond to your child and celebrate their learning.
Team Kiwi Term 4 Home Learning
Team Kiwi’s timetable can be found on our Distance Learning Website. The Learning Timetable will be uploaded on Sunday ready for the week ahead.
Team Kiwi teachers will continue to do daily Zooms every day at 9.30am and your child’s teacher will share the Zoom link with you, along with any other specific information on Sunday. Our Zooms will be slightly different going forward in that teachers will be doing short lessons based on one of the learning activities from the daily timetable on Monday to Thursday. Friday’s Zooms will be for sharing and will have a more social focus.
It would be helpful if your child could have the following things ready for each day:
- Paper and pencil for writing, or a whiteboard and marker if they have one
- Colouring pencils/pens
If you would like more learning material, we highly recommend you print off one of our Level 1 booklets. There are printable hard packs on the website that have been added for Term 4. If you don’t have a printer available, these could also be viewed on a screen and completed on paper.
We encourage children to participate in the daily Zooms. Please continue to share work that your child completes at home with their teacher, so that they can respond to your child and celebrate their learning.
Team Pūkeko Term 4 Home Learning
The weekly timetable for Team Pūkeko will continue to be uploaded on a Sunday for the upcoming week.
Teachers will continue to Zoom with their class at 10.00am each day, however the Zooms/Zui will now extend to up to 45 mins depending on the needs of students and teacher discretion. During this time the teacher will explicitly teach one of the lessons from the weekly timetable. Children will be encouraged to stay on the Zoom for this lesson. The daily lesson will be highlighted on the weekly timetable. Friday Zooms will continue to be a fun Friday and the teacher will let your child know what will be happening each week.
Each teacher will share a slideshow via Google Classroom with your child at the start of the week. This slide show will give an outline of the explicit lessons for the week, any equipment your child may need, a further breakdown of each individual lesson, and a place for your child to share their work.
To supplement the weekly timetable there are new printable hard packs available on the learning site.
Please email Cameron Lockie if you require your child’s chromebook. cameronlockie@silverdaleprimary.school.nz
Team Tūī Term 4 Home Learning
Teachers will now Zoom with their class at 9.30am each day. This is so that teachers can set the scene for the learning for the day. During this time the teacher will explicitly teach one of the lessons from the weekly timetable. Children will be encouraged to stay on the Zoom for this lesson with their camera on. The daily lesson will be highlighted on the weekly timetable. Zooms will be extended to approximately 30-45 minutes (as needed) to accommodate this change. Our expectation is that students will share their work back to their teacher each week. Teachers will discuss the arrangements for this with their classes.
To supplement the weekly timetable there are new printable hard packs available on the learning site.
