Sickness
During the winter months we have a lot of sickness going around the school. This sickness affects children and staff. Please make sure that if your child feels unwell or sick please don’t send them to school. At times during the term we find it hard to find reliever teachers to cover classes when our teachers are sick. When we have staff members away for an extended period of time due to sickness, we try our best to get the same reliever for the class but sometimes this is not possible, this is not ideal but this is something that is out of our control.

Congratulations to the following children who received principal awards at last week’s assembly.

Silverdale School Board
Silverdale School Board next hui is on Monday 16 August at 7.00pm, all are welcome to attend.
Silverdale School PTA
Silverdale School PTA next hui is tonight at 7.00pm all are welcome.
KERI Ambassadors All children at Silverdale School are using our school values of Kindness, Excellence, Integrity and Respect to solve minor problems involving conflict. As well as running the Cool School programme in our classrooms we have a group of specially trained Year 5 and 6 students who will be acting as KERI ambassadors. Our KERI ambassadors will be mediating minor conflicts between students during playtime and lunchtime, supporting them to use their conflict resolution skills to solve their problems.
Cool Schools Programme aims: “Conflict is a part of everyday life; it’s how you deal with it that makes the difference.” The Cool Schools Programme aims: * to raise awareness of conflict and conflict responses. * to develop empathy so that individuals listen to each other with understanding. * to teach lifelong conflict management skills. * to develop leadership in giving service to others through peer mediation. * to empower individuals in making positive choices for building successful relationships. * to grow respectful, global citizens who value diversity and human rights.
Growth Mindset v Fixed Mindset Mindset is a simple idea discovered by world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck in decades of research on achievement and success. In a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits. They spend their time documenting their intelligence or talent instead of developing them. They also believe that talent alone creates success, without effort. They’re wrong. In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work; brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment. Virtually all great people have had these qualities. Mindsets are beliefs, beliefs about yourself and your most basic qualities. Think about your intelligence, your talents, your personality. Are these qualities simply fixed traits, carved in stone and that’s that? Or are they things you can cultivate throughout your life? People with a fixed mindset believe that their traits are just givens. They have a certain amount of brains and talent and nothing can change that. If they have a lot, they’re all set, but if they don’t… So people in this mindset worry about their traits and how adequate they are. They have something to prove to themselves and others. People with a growth mindset, on the other hand, see their qualities as things that can be developed through their dedication and effort. Sure they’re happy if they’re brainy or talented, but that’s just the starting point. They understand that no one has ever accomplished great things—not Mozart, Darwin, or Lorde, without years of passionate practice and learning.
