Welcome
Welcome to Jay Feng, Hugo Speakman, Cyress Buchanan, Kreeli Panchal, Talecia Hanekom, Claire Zhang, Elsa Fang, Elsah Buchanan, Teodora Vlatkovic, Taylin Hanekom, Hayden Wong, Owen Shu, Brady Walton, Olivia Schmidt, Sofia Spurr, Allegra Bennett, Zante Claassens, Riley Smith, Mia Verma, Cooper Seaman, Leo James, Lachy Holland and Arie Hawkins. Our current roll is 865.
Welcome
Welcome to Julia True, Hannah Schoffelmeer and Aleysha Ingram who are joining our staff as teacher aides this term.
Growing Roll
As our roll is still growing we are having to use the hui room next to the library as a classroom. Mrs Naomi Gillam has moved into this learning space with the Reception Room children and Mrs Sarah Campion is teaching a Year 0 class in Room 5. Looking at our future five year old enrolments for the rest of the year, we still have about 50 five year olds to start. As the Reception Room grows we will be using the library as a classroom and employing more teachers to support the children’s learning, which means unfortunately that we will have to close the library to the rest of the school.
Our 12 classroom block should start construction hopefully around October/November and be ready to use around September 2022.
Happy Birthday
Happy birthday to Ben Cooper, Madison Sims, Liam Peyper, Lucas Xie, Nina Pfeiffer, Keri Tsui, Lola Barrows, Eva Chen, Mila Tsui, Hana Kernohan, Liam Coetzee, Devon Edmondson, Erin Mans, Tyla White, Sheldon Wang, Leo Zhang, Henry Wang, Narek Ford, Jessica Chen, Miguel Agustin, Preston Jamieson and Bella Jiang.
Term 3 Teacher Only Day
On Friday 10 September the school will be closed for a teacher only day.
Father’s Morning or Significant Males Morning
We will be holding a fathers or significant other male morning at school on Thursday 9 September from 9.00am to 10.55am. This is an opportunity for you to come into your child’s/children’s classroom to see what they do at school. Your child will be able to show you their learning and show you around the classroom. You don’t need to book, just turn up and enjoy. At 10.55am our fathers or significant other males are invited to stay with the class and share morning tea with the class.
P.E.A.K.S (Participation, Effort, Action, Knowledge, Skills)
P.E.A.K.S (Participation, Effort, Action, Knowledge, Skills) is our home learning programme where we celebrate the effort and commitment of students who take on a challenge and complete it in their own time. It enables us the chance to recognise the depth and wealth of learning opportunities students engage in in their leisure time.
Each team offers slightly different challenges they can engage in and there is also the opportunity to design their own challenge.
Each year level has a set number of challenges to achieve in the year. Those that complete these will be awarded a trophy at the end of the year in recognition of their efforts.

Team Names
Team Te OHanga
A nest provides those that live in it all that they require to survive; food, warmth and shelter. It is a place to be nurtured and loved.
Our nest for the Year 0 and 1’s is the starting place for all our learners to begin their learning journey. Everyone starts in the nest needing similar requirements to help them grow and become independent. The Nest nurtures our students and makes them have a love for coming to school, a love for learning, and realise that school is a place to have fun.
Team Kiwi
The kiwi is well grounded searching through the undergrowth for their food, ideally adapted to suit their environment. While they do not use their wings they are still there ready to use should the need arise.
Our young learners are like this, fossicking amongst all that is to be learned, absorbed and adapted to suit the environment and each individual.
Team Pukeko
The pukeko is a bird that takes ownership of its world, engaging in short bursts of flight. The pukeko is eternally inquisitive, wanting to know everything that goes on about it.
Our Year 3 and 4 learners are like this – taking those bursts into learning, retracing their steps, seeking clarity and beginning to really push thos boundaries of learning.
Team Tui
The tui is a striking bird who is no longer a ground dweller but seeks to explore the tree tops. The tui is one of the early birds to announce its presence and sing with great skill and delight. Our young people in Team Tui are like these birds. They are flexing their learning muscles, enjoying life and take their learning into the wider world. They embrace life and learning.
Principal Awards
Congratulations to the following children who were awarded Principal Awards at assembly last term.

Communication
There are a number of ways that we communicate with our community.
School App – for Apple and Android, search ks connect in the app store and then search for Silverdale School.
School Newsletter – every Wednesday the school newsletter will be emailed to you, if you want a hard copy, please email the office.
Email – please make sure that we have your correct email address as we use email to communicate information to you.
Website – http://www.silverdaleprimary.school.nz/
If you have any questions about school please contact your child’s teacher via email or phone.
Car Parking
Car parking is at a premium here at school. An option during drop off and pick up is to park away from the school and walk to school, a great way of building you and your child’s fitness and help reduce the carbon footprint at the same time.
The drop off zone that borders the sloping bank will be a ‘manned’ stop, drop and go area from 8.30am to 8.55am and again from 3.00pm to 3.10pm. In the morning our car park hosts will greet your vehicle and, if necessary, escort your youngsters to their classes. These students and staff will be wearing High-viz jackets. This means you will be able to stop, drop and go in a minimum of time. In the afternoon your children will wait for you on the bank to be retrieved. The teacher on duty will pop your child in your vehicle and you can quickly depart.
Our mobility car parks are in operation in the main carpark, so please ensure that these are used only for the purpose they were designed. Unless you have a mobility card and the card holder is in the car then the spaces must be kept clear.
We have had Kingsway School parents complaining that Silverdale parents are using their back carpark area and it is causing traffic jams. Please do not park in the Kingsway School carpark.
Pick Up and Drop Off
With our increasing roll we are experiencing more and more cars coming into school to pick up and drop off children. Ideally we would like less cars coming into school. You can help with this by parking at Metro Park and walking into school for pick ups and drop offs. The first car park at Metro Park is 400m away which is about a 5 minutes walk, a great way to start the day.
If you are coming into school then please see below maps of the correct way to use the car park on school grounds.
In particular the Stop, Drop and Go there is no parking between 8.00am and 9.00am, and 2.45pm and 3.15pm. If you park in the stop, drop and go this causes congestion for people trying to pick up their children early from kindy or school and for anyone else trying to get into school. Once the school buses arrive and our parents are waiting in the Stop, Drop and Go area for school to finish and this blocks any traffic from coming into school.
We ask that you not park in the Stop, Drop and Go area until after 2.45pm. This will help the flow of traffic arriving and leaving the school.
A couple of reminders: Both carparks are for staff cars only, please do not park in any of the carparks. No parking in the stop, drop and go area until after 2.45pm. At stop, drop and go please do not get out of your car.
Dental Clinic Parking A reminder to parents that you must not use the dental clinic car park to drop off or pick up children, thanks for your cooperation in this.
