Country Show Day
Thank you to everyone who came along to our Country Show Day. This year’s Country Show Day was a fantastic event and everyone had a great time. It was fantastic to see so many people at our school enjoying our Country Show Day. The day had a brilliant feeling and many commented that it was the best one so far. The amount of hard work and effort that goes into the organisation of an event this size is huge.
Thank you to everyone who has helped us in any way in the organisation of our Country Show Day. The PTA worked extremely hard in making this day an exciting and fun day for all. This is our major fundraising event of the year and it was great to see so many people supporting our school and children.
We are very lucky that we have a small group of very dedicated people putting their heart and soul into this event. Without the work of the PTA this event would be nowhere near the success that it was. I’m very grateful to this hard working group and all the effort they put into our school throughout the year.

Fundraiser to support Alex Haselden-Lister’s family
Please support Alex’s family after his sudden and tragic passing.
This is a local family and although Alex didn’t attend Silverdale School, his Dad, Nick, was a local policeman who has helped out with Country Show Day as overnight security in recent years. He was booked to do it last weekend but for obvious reasons couldn’t. If you can, please give a little, every little helps!

Cricket Zone Day
Cricket zone day was an awesome and fun competition that some Year 5 and Year 6 students experienced. There were schools from all around the area. The following schools competing were: Silverdale School, Kingsway School, Dairy Flat Primary, Orewa Primary, Stella Maris, Wainui Primary, Red Beach Primary and Warkworth Primary. Our school was divided into 4 teams of 8. Two boys , one girl team and one mixed team. I was in one of the boys’ teams, The Ponytail Club. Our first match was against Red Beach Primary, it was a close match but we lost by a little bit. Next we had a match against Kingsway School where we lost as well. Next one was an interesting one we versed against our own school , the mixed team. It was a very good and fun match and our team won. Around this point everybody was eating their lunches for a little rest and not short after that we had another match against another Red Beach Primary team and fortunately we won this one too. We were really happy that we won a match against another school. In the afternoon and our last match was against Wainui Primary, it was definitely the closest match of all by far we barely lost by two points. Congratulations to Warkworth Primary for winning the competition!! We all had fun at Cricket zone day 2020. By Ido Khusid (Year 6)

Quiz Night FAQs
Do I have to be good at quizzes to go to Quiz Night?
Absolutely NOT! Quiz night is just an excuse to get out the house and have a fun time without kids around.
How many people do we need for a team?
Teams of 4 and Teams of 8 are encouraged to register. However, if you want to participate and need help organising a team, just email us at silverdalepta@gmail.com and we can help you out.
Do teams dress up?
Yes, teams dress up. We will even have a prize for best dressed…however, this is not a requirement! Feel free to just come as you are.
Do we need cash, or can we bring cards?
We will have one Eftpos machine site, but bring cash to keep the lines shorter, get your drinks faster and be able to join in on some games and raffles.
CREDIT CARDS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED
What can I buy at Quiz Night?
Drinks: Beer, wine and soft drinks will be available for purchase.
Food: Teams will be given the opportunity to buy pizzas from Northern Union which will be delivered on site. Teams are also encouraged to bring nibbles for their table.
Hampers and games: We’ll have some awesome hampers to raffle off and some games to keep you entertained throughout.

Silverdale School Flippa Ball, Sunday November 1st
For our second match of Term 4, the Silver Fins played the WGP Stingrays, who sure had a lot of sting in their tail. The Fins were caught at last minute with no sub this week, so their work was definitely cut out for this one. When, at the first whistle, Julian Beall got possession of the ball, all was looking (falsley) promising as the ball quickly made its way via Jack Wooller up front to Striker Alice Bauld. However the Stingrays were true to form, and their quick response immediately put the kibosh on that! Eventually, Morgan Lusher scored our first goal, and Alissa Hurter played an exceptional game consistently supporting both ends of the pool with her fast thinking and swift moves. Inevitably the Stingrays bit back with a vengeance, scoring 3 three goals to the Fins 1. Oh No. But Coach Duncan wasn’t going to let this stop them. Following a half time motivational chat with Coach Duncan, Julians fast paced strokes enabled the team to gain possession of the ball again, the difference this time being the Fins had the fire in their belly. They were not going to lose without a fight, and everyone watching could see the shift in attitude. Julian scored a goal, but so did the Stingrays, taking the score to 2 – 4. However…. before you could say “Hocus Pocus” some magical fast ball playing was witnessed again via Goalie Jamie Welch, through to Jack, on to Alice who scored, followed by another goal from Morgan taking us to a miraculous 4 all. Talk about pulling one out of the hat! The pressure was now on the defense of Alissa and Jack, and Goalie Jamie was having to pass at double the speed (if that’s possible) for the Fins to break out of a tie… Jamie fired the ball across the pool in the direction of Julian, Alice and Morgan, and Zack Gibbins. And it was our amazing strikers, along with a tireless Alissa and Jack who ensured our little team had the comeback of all comebacks. Yep, Alice went on to score two more goals and at final whistle the Fins won, 6 – 4. Following the match, Coach Duncan said it was “the best game the Fins had played in 3 years”, the team spirit was in full force and each player played their heart out. However, saving the best for last, our Player of the Day was the mighty, mighty Zack Gibbins (pictured). Zack played a commanding performance, showing great team work and support through all areas of the match, defense, midfield, and strikers. He dominated the game with his high level of competency and amongst a team of outstanding players, he still managed to stand out, which is a real credit to both his ability and sportsmanship. Well done Zack, and well done Team Fins. Whoop Whoop!

We are offering tuition to those pupils from age 10 years and staff and parents who would like to learn the pipes and or drums.
You are invited to our practice on a Wednesday at 7pm in the St Johns Ambulance Hall 36 Silverdale Street Silverdale. Come for a visit.
Tuition is FREE on joining the band.
Learning Piping
A pipe chanter ( similar to a recorder) is all that is needed to start. A new quality plastic one can be purchased for approximately $110.00. The band can help you select one which is needed for ongoing use to learn music after you have progressed to bagpipes.
It is likely to take six months or so before you need a set of bagpipes. We have
limited sets for loan.
Learning Drumming
For snare and tenor drumming, a practice pad and a set of band approved sticks are needed. A new set of sticks and a practice pad cost approximately $35.00 each.
The band can help with your selection of sticks to ensure that the sound matches other instruments. Drums are the property of the band and are available for use free of charge.
Uniform and Dress
Band members when they qualify to fill the ranks are issued with a uniform.

Whether you’re a parent with young children or teenagers, or just trying to deal with the unprecedented uncertainty of the times we all find ourselves living in, we could all probably do with some pointers on how to manage our wellbeing. In this entertaining evening, Nigel will explore how Covid-19 has impacted all of our lives, young and old, and share some strategies for managing and coping with stress and anxiety. This is an evening that will be appropriate for all ages.
