Level Two Schooling

I have been very impressed with how well our children have come back to school ready to learn. Our classrooms are buzzing with excitement and humming with learning and it’s great to see our children at school following our level 2 guidelines, washing hands, keeping out of other people’s moist breath zone.

Thank you to all our parents/caregivers for following our guidelines, particularly at the beginning and end of the day. The mornings and afternoons have worked really well. Cabinet will review the level 2 settings on June 8 – but will not consider whether the country is ready to move to level 1 until June 22. We have reviewed our current guidelines for parents, caregivers, whanau, visitors, staff and children and these will continue until June 22.

Families/whanau who have chosen to keep their children home during the first two weeks of level 2 will be required to send their children to school, at the latest on Tuesday 2 June. Our distance learning site won’t be updated from Friday 29 May.

School Closed for Queens Birthday

School is closed on Monday 1 June for Queens birthday.

Below is a selection of writing from Rooms 28 and 30.

The day school let out

On Monday I heard that school was out and I was so happy I was jumping up and down because I thought more baking and video games! But then I started to get bored, day after day.  I just wanted to play on the playground or see my friends, or just do something fun.  When we moved to Level 3 I was excited and then came Level 2! I was so happy I could go to the mall and then my parents started asking questions about school and they said school’s open and I was so nervous but then I was excited!

The day we found out we were going into lockdown.

When my Mum told me there was no more school I was so happy, but then I was soon bored! I realised I couldn’t go play with my friends or go scootering with them. When I heard we were going to Level 2 I was so excited because I could meet up with my friends again and go and hang out.  I am going back to school and will have to go back to doing school work and some homework! It’ll mean less time for video games!

Returning to school

“Yay!” School has started.

I was very happy when I knew it was Level 2.

I could see my friends and play on the playground.

I said “Mum, I want to go to school fast!”

When I arrived at school, I was really nervous but when I saw my friends I had a big smile on my face.

I wish Coronavirus would stop quickly and we can have many peaceful years.

The return to school

Monday 18th of May was the day that we came back to school. I felt anxious, worried and weird. I felt weird when I came back to school because normally people in our class would be busy chatting, but instead of noise we were completely the opposite today! Everybody was walking around by their front door and nobody said a single word. Our classroom was finally silent! YAY! Suddenly Miss Betts announced we can  talk and mix up together. This made me feel a little better to chat with my friends. I am looking forward to seeing my teachers and friends again!

Student Attendance Data

We will be sending student attendance data to the Ministry of Education weekly, from Friday 29 May. The purpose is to:

• report to the National Crisis Monitoring Centre and government on levels of attendance during the COVID-19 period,
• inform and support Ministry of Education planning for students and schools returning to normal operation,
• evaluate and report on the effectiveness of initiatives implemented by the Ministry to respond and manage its response to COVID-19.

Team Tui Stop, Drop and Go – Metro Park

Until further notice, Stop Drop & Go for Team Tui will be at the Metro Park car park (by the cricket nets).  

Thank you all so much for your cooperation with this new procedure.  A couple of points to note:

• Please ensure any changes to pick up arrangements are emailed to the office and class teacher
• Students still at Metro Park at 3.20pm will be brought back over to the School Office
• Pack a raincoat for your child in case of rain

Students Arriving Late to School

Students who arrive late to school will no longer need to report to the office to sign in. They are now to go straight to their classroom and teachers will record their arrival.

New Sandpit Area

This week we opened the new sandpit area and the children are loving it! The sandpit is for Year 3/4 children and the walkways and platforms are for everyone. A massive thank you to We Do Landscaping for completing this project. We Do Landscaping is a local company owned by one of our Dads, Simon Godfrey.

2020 Mid Year Reports

Due to the disruption in school learning caused by Covid-19 we will not be sending home your child’s written report. These reports are generated from our online learning portal, SchoolTalk, and show a snapshot of your child’s learning at that time. Teachers have not been able to confidently update your child’s progress on SchoolTalk during distance learning, therefore this report would not give an accurate and fair summary of your child’s learning and next steps at this time. 

You can access SchoolTalk at any time through your parent portal. This will give you real time access to the progress and achievements of your child learning, including their next steps. Please read our SchoolTalk instructions for Parent Portal to give you an overview of the features of SchoolTalk, how to get a holistic view of your child’s learning progress and how to support your child’s learning in informed ways through the resource database.

 

A Message from Silverdale Children’s Community Dental Clinic

Now we are in COVID-19 Alert Level 2 we wanted to let you know about the services that will be available from the Children’s Community Dental Service (Auckland Regional Dental Service).

We are not able to offer routine appointments just yet, but we will let you know as soon as this changes. This means that routine appointments may be delayed.

Some of our dental clinics will be open to offer appointments to children with urgent dental care needs. Our staff will be in contact with the parent or caregiver of any child who requires an urgent appointment.

If a child is in pain, or if you have an immediate concern about a child’s teeth, please ask the parent or caregiver to phone 0800 TALK TEETH to speak to one of our therapists. The therapist will be able to give advice and may arrange an appointment for the child if needed.

We have asked parents and caregivers not to come to the clinics if they do not have an appointment booked. This is because we require all children and their parents/caregivers to answer COVID-19 screening questions before they come for an appointment.
