Happy Holidays from Silverdale School!
As the end of another fantastic year approaches, I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy and restful holiday season.
It’s been a year filled with learning, laughter, and growth for our children, and I’m incredibly proud of everything we have achieved. From our Country Show Day, our successful Year 6 school camp, our students’ achievements in sport days to the everyday moments of learning and discovery, it’s been a joy to witness our tamariki flourish.
I also want to express my sincere gratitude to our dedicated staff, who go above and beyond to create a positive and supportive learning environment for our students. Their hard mahi and commitment are truly appreciated.
To our wonderful parents and whānau, thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. Your involvement in our school community makes a real difference in the lives of our children.
I hope this holiday season brings you joy, relaxation, and quality time with loved ones. May your holidays be filled with laughter, delicious food, and happy memories.
I look forward to welcoming everyone back to school refreshed and ready for another exciting year of learning on Monday 10 February.
Meri Kirihimete and a Happy New Year!

Sandy Evans Manaakitanga Memorial Award
Sandy Evans, was teacher aid at Silverdale School for 16 years. She died suddenly in a tragic accident in January 2012. Sandy had an enormous empathy for all students and particularly those she worked with.
Silverdale School Board created a Manaakitanga Memorial for Sandy as they felt she embodied the principles of manaakitanga – extending the hand of friendship, finding positives in all activities, exemplifying tolerance, kindness and empathy to others.
This memorial will be awarded at the end of each term at the final assembly of the term to the student that staff feel is the most worthy recipient from the designated team.
Guidelines for awarding the Manaakitanga Memorial
- Consistent application of being kind to others.
- Going the extra mile without seeking recognition.
- Positive mind set to self and others.
- Ongoing evidence of respect, tolerance and empathy for others.
- Consistently showing our KERI Values of Kindness/Atawhai, Excellence/Hiranga, Respect/Whakaute, Integrity/Ngākau pono
Kevein Liyanaarachchi, a Year One student in Team Te Ohanga, is awarded the Manaakitanga award for embodying kindness, respect, and generosity. He creates a positive classroom environment where everyone feels valued. Kevein actively supports his peers, demonstrating a growth mindset and a strong work ethic. He leads by example, showcasing the KERI values through his actions and words. Kevein’s dedication, character, and academic abilities make him a valuable member of the school community.

A Symbol of Leadership: The Tui Mural
Holly and Kreeli have created a stunning mural of a tūī, symbolising the leadership qualities we value at Silverdale School. This beautiful artwork now brightens our school, inspiring students and staff alike.
The project was a true collaboration, with support from Bunnings, who provided art supplies, and Mr. Pierce, who helped with the installation. Holly and Kreeli dedicated their break times over five days to complete the mural, demonstrating their commitment and artistic talent.
The mural is a testament to the creativity and dedication of our students, and it serves as a beautiful reminder of the leadership qualities we strive for at Silverdale School.

Year 6 Leavers Assembly
What a fantastic way to farewell our Year 6 students! Last week’s Leavers’ Assembly was a truly special occasion, filled with laughter, pride, and maybe a few tears (happy ones, of course!).
A huge thank you to everyone who came along to celebrate the graduation of our Year 6 children.
We extend a special thank you to Alex Franklin and the rest of the Year 6 teachers for their incredible efforts in organizing such a memorable event. From the moving speeches and performances to the beautiful decorations (thanks to Mon!), every detail was perfect.
Our Year 6 students are shining examples of our school KERI values, Kindness/Atawhai, Excellence/Hiranga, Respect/Whakaute, Integrity/Ngākau pono. We know they will continue to embody these values as they embark on their new adventures at Intermediate.
To our Year 6 students, remember all the wonderful memories you’ve made at Silverdale School, the friendships you’ve forged, and the lessons you’ve learned. Never give up on your dreams, and always strive to be the best version of yourselves. We are so proud of you!
Kia kaha, kia māia, kia manawanui – Be strong, be brave, be steadfast.

Hat orders via Kindo
The office runs a report at 9.30am each morning for hat orders. These are then labelled for the child and given to the teacher to hand out. Hats can also be ordered directly with the uniform shop.
