Sandy Evans Manaakitanga Award Term 2 Team Pūkeko
Sandy Evans, was teacher aid at Silverdale School for 16 years. She died suddenly in a tragic accident in January 2012. Sandy had an enormous empathy for all students and particularly those she worked with.
Silverdale School Board created a Manaakitanga Memorial for Sandy as they felt she embodied the principles of manaakitanga – extending the hand of friendship, finding positives in all activities, exemplifying tolerance, kindness and empathy to others.
This memorial will be awarded at the end of each term at the final assembly of the term to the student that staff feel is the most worthy recipient from the designated team.
The student will hold the memorial for a term, their photo will be taken with the award and will be put into the newsletter. A certificate will also be awarded to the student.
Guidelines for awarding the Manaakitanga Memorial
- Consistent application of being kind to others.
- Going the extra mile without seeking recognition.
- Positive mind set to self and others.
- Ongoing evidence of respect, tolerance and empathy for others.
- Consistently showing our KERI Values of Kindness/Atawhai, Excellence/Hiranga, Respect/Whakaute, Integrity/Ngākau pono
This term the recipient of the Manaakitanga memorial has been selected from Team Kiwi. We have so many students at Silverdale School who consistently show our KERI values that it is always a very tough decision for teachers. This year, there is one student in Team Kiwi who has stood out in particular.
This student is a shining example of manaakitanga, consistently demonstrating respect, generosity, and care for others. Her patience, kindness, and trustworthiness make her a beloved member of our class whanau.
She is always the first to lend a helping hand, whether it’s assisting a classmate or supporting a teacher. Her genuine joy in others’ achievements is a testament to her selfless nature. She encourages everyone to share their work, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.
This student has an infectious smile and a genuine interest in the well-being of others. She goes out of her way to ask how others are doing and makes them feel better, offering a kind word, or a comforting hug.
She embodies the spirit of our KERI values and serves as an inspiring role model for all. Her reliability, generosity, and commitment to excellence make her a true asset to our school whanau. It is with great pride that I present this term’s Manaakitanga Award to Eva You.
