2024 Silverdale School Readathon Online Fundraiser

Silverdale School is running an online Readathon Fundraiser from now until Friday May 17. As well as raising much needed funds for our school, our Readathon will allow all of our students to further develop their reading, enhancing their vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking abilities. Whilst new entrants may not be able to read yet, they are still encouraged to participate in the Readathon with the help of a family member or other adult.

Like all New Zealand schools, Silverdale School relies on fundraising revenue to further enhance learning opportunities and the overall school environment for all our current and future students. This year we are fundraising towards a passive playground, where children can have a quiet space during break times, to help them to regulate their emotions.  Fundraising gives our students a sense of empowerment from being able to work as a team and contribute towards a common goal.  We thank you for your ongoing support.

How will this fundraiser work? We have again partnered with online fundraising company Go Raise It.  Collecting sponsorship online makes it super easy for everyone – no more door knocking, your child can collect more donations from further afield (friends & family living overseas, work colleagues etc) and no need to worry about handling cash!

How do I sign my child up to fundraise online? Each child can sign up for their very own fundraising web page to send out to collect online sponsorship from anyone, anywhere!

Just go to our Fundraising Hub page at: https://silverdaleschoolreadathon.raiseit.co.nz

If you need any help email help@raiseitfundraising.com for direct assistance

Multiple children in your family? No problem, all children can sit under the same email address. You’ll find a button to set up another page while logged in to the fundraising account you created first.

Do I have to sign up for an online account to fundraise? We would love everyone to have an online account as this allows the school to significantly reduce administration overheads. Go Raise It adhere to strict cyber safe guidelines and this is built into our fundraising website.

Prizes:

We have a great range of fundraising prizes available including spot prizes and overall fundraising prizes for classes, teams and individuals.  Sign up before Monday 6 May to go into the draw to win Pro Beats Earbuds, sign up before 10am Monday 13 May and get at least one donation, to go into the draw to win a Projector Speaker.   Please see the Prizes page linked on the Fundraising Hub page for more information about our prizes.   Prize winners for individual, class and team will be announced on Monday 20 May.

Mid-Year Achievement and Progress Report

Your child’s Mid-Year Achievement and Progress Report will be shared with you on Thursday 6 June. This will be emailed to you directly from SchoolTalk.

This report gives a snapshot of where your child is currently at. It will show a graph of achievement outlining how your child is progressing against each of the New Zealand Curriculum expectations for Reading, Writing and Mathematics and five next steps that your child will be working towards.

Learning Conservations – Wednesday 12 June and Thursday 13 June

The learning conversations are three-way conferences with the teacher, child and parent. Three-way conferences take the form of a conversation between the child, the parents and the teacher as they sit together and talk about the child’s learning, with the child taking an equal role. This approach give children an opportunity to share with their parents their growth as a learner. The three-way conferences are designed to achieve one or more of the following goals:

  • to help children demonstrate evidence of learning,
  • to teach children the process of reflection and self-evaluation,
  • to facilitate the development of child’s organisational and oral communication skills and to increase their self-confidence,
  • to encourage children, parents, and teachers to engage in open and honest dialogue,
  • to encourage children to accept personal responsibility for their learning.

Times for Learning Conversations are:

Wednesday 12 June 12:30pm – 6:00pm and Thursday 13 June 3:15pm – 6:00pm

On Wednesday 12 June the school will close at 12.00pm, can you please collect your child at this time this is only for Wednesday 12 June.

Each learning conversation session lasts for 15 minutes.

A link will be sent next week for you to book your learning conversations with your child’s teacher.
