Team Te Ōhanga Fun Athletics
On Tuesday Team Te Ōhanga enjoyed a morning of Fun Athletics in the sunshine. The tamariki moved with their class through a number of activities such as giant egg and spoon, relays, hurdles and discus. The highlight of the day was the class sprints, followed by a parent race! Thank you to all the teachers, children and parents who made this a special day!

Sustainability Challenge 2023
This year we took seventy-seven students along to take part in The Sustainability Challenge at Long Bay Regional Park. Each team of four- students and one adult were given the task of navigating their way around the park to find up to seventy-one markers and complete up to twelve sustainably focused challenges. All they had to go on was an orienteering map and some clues!
Some of the challenges they faced were identifying native birds and their te reo names, using a catapult to show pest animals, nature yoga, packing a civil emergency grab bag, decoding animal footprints, sorting through which products could be reused, recycled or had to become landfill, recognising actions that create greenhouse gases among many more.
The more markers they found and challenges they completed, the more points they earned for their team. They were also up against the clock, being given two hours to gain as many points as possible!
Silverdale School was joined by many other local schools, with over one-hundred teams taking part in the day. Our teams did amazing and all came home with big smiles, greater knowledge of sustainable thinking and tired legs! That includes the awesome parent helpers that made this day possible.
