Sandy Evans Manaakitanga Memorial Award
Manaakitanga is the demonstration of showing respect, generosity and care for others. The Manaakitanga award was created by the board of trustees as a memorial for Sandy Evans, a teacher aide at Silverdale School who tragically passed away after an accident in 2012. Sandy embodied all of the principles of Manaakitanga and this memorial is awarded at the end of each term to the student the staff feel is the most worthy recipient.
This term the recipient of the Manaakitanga memorial has been selected out of Team Kiwi. We have so many students at Silverdale School who consistently show our KERI values that it is always a very tough decision for teachers. This year, there is one student in Team Kiwi who has stood out in particular.
This student is a role model for patience and kindness and is always the first to offer her help to others. She is genuinely happy for everyone else’s achievements which is a reflection of her selflessness. This student encourages everyone when they share their work, regardless of who it is, and she loves to share her learning to help others. This is particularly noticeable with her love for New Zealand Sign Language. She has played an instrumental role in helping others improve their Sign Language through her teaching skills and her patience and calm demeanour.
This student always has a big smile on her face. She is genuinely interested in the well-being of others and takes the time to ask how they are. She extends her kindness to others by offering help when they are hurt, upset, or have dropped something. She excels at calming them down and promptly informing a teacher if necessary, showcasing her caring and empathetic nature.
This student embodies each and every one of our KERI values and is a wonderful role model for all. It is with great pleasure to award terms 3 Manaakitanga Award to Emma Cameron. He whetu koe, Emma!
