Lock Down Drill Wednesday 17 May
On Wednesday 17 May at 11.30am the whole school will be participating in a Lockdown practise. The whole school will be practising what to do during a lockdown. Part of this practise is sending communication out to our community during the lockdown practise, it will be clearly labelled as a practise. If you are at school on Wednesday 17 May at 11.30am you will also be part of the lockdown practise.
As part of keeping our school safe we need to be able to respond safely and quickly to a range of emergency situations. We work alongside an independent company, Harrison Tew ® , who specialises in emergency management planning for schools, whose procedures have been successfully implemented in hundreds of schools throughout New Zealand. As part of maintaining our emergency procedures in our school, specialised training is being conducted with our senior leadership and staff by Harrison Tew ®. The students will also receive information on how to respond in an emergency directed at their respective age groups from either their teacher or Harrison Tew ®. We will then be conducting a lockdown exercise under the guidance and support of Harrison Tew ®. During the exercise you will receive a notification from the school, so it is important that your emergency contact details are up to date and correct. The notification will emphasise that this is an exercise/practice and will explain that all updated information will then be posted on the school website. In a genuine incident, should you become aware of a lockdown or evacuation at the school, can I please ask that you do not attend the school or phone, as we will not be able to respond. Your presence or contact may make it more difficult for us or the emergency services to manage a situation. We thank you for your support.

Green Man Walking – Road Safety
Last week, our Travelwise Leaders took to the large crossing at Millwater Parkway/Bankside Rd/Longmore Lane. The Travelwise Leaders aim was to bring awareness to drivers to stop when the light is red and to watch out for students crossing. We’d like to thank drivers for taking extra care around this very busy crossing.

What is a Walking School Bus?
It is a group of children who walk together to/from school with parent supervisors along a set route.
Why should I join a Walking School Bus?
There are so many benefits of a walking school bus! Parents get to connect with one another, children get to have fun and get active. There is less congestion at school gates with more people walking which helps to improve the safety of the roads around schools.
Details for our current walking school bus routes:
