Mental Health Awareness Week
Mental Health Awareness Week is being held this week here is the link to their great website. In 2022, Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW) will be held on 26 September – 2 October.
MHAW is run annually by the Mental Health Foundation and has been since 1993. MHAW is endorsed by the World Federation for Mental Health and is marked in over 150 countries at different times of the year.
This year’s theme is Reconnect – with the people and places that lift you up, hei pikinga waiora.
The past couple of years have been tough and it’s easy to feel disconnected from the people and places that are important to us.
Whether it’s reaching out to someone you have lost contact with, visiting a place that’s special to you or getting outside in nature, we hope you’ll join us this MHAW to reconnect with the people and places that lift you up to enhance your wellbeing – hei pikinga waiora.
To help you activate the theme for yourself, your whānau, school, workplace or community, check out the MHAW 2022 Guide for daily activity ideas.
Mā te whakarongo, ka mōhio
through listening, comes knowledge
Mā te mōhio, ka mārama,
through knowledge, comes understanding
Mā te mārama, ka matau,
through understanding, comes wisdom
Mā te matau, ka ora
through wisdom, comes wellbeing

Trash To Fashion 2022
Team Tūī Kākāriki have all been busy coming up with Trash To Fashion creations throughout Term 3. The fashion spectrum has been covered from the serious wedding dress shopper, to the weird and wacky throw anything together buyer. From game characters to leaf guardians, bottle cap no cap top hats to natures scraps fashions, Team Kākāriki has the latest fashion trends. They are high end fashionistas, creating end of the world must-haves – from aluminium dresses to tin gas masks. Each work of art was designed from scratch, crafted by hand and fashioned with care, as well as being created using all kinds of trash to help save our landfills from unnecessary waste. They have outfits for athletes through to the modern day warrior!
Team Kākāriki had a great morning sharing their fashion statements in a Trash To Fashion runway extravaganza, and gave the judges a difficult task! Here are the place getters:

Interschool Cross Country 2022
Last week, 28 Year 5 and 6 students from Silverdale School faced other top competitors in the annual interschool cross country event. The day at Shakespeare Regional Park started out gorgeous but then turned on us and we ended up running in cold rain after lunch. Congratulations to all of our competitors on the day – it is not an easy event and you all gave it everything you had. A special congratulations to Marcus Leslie (Year 6) who came 2nd in the individual race and Gemma Dunn (Year 5) who came 3rd in the individual race. Arai Gardiner, Alizee Rose and Lisyanna Kumkee came 3rd in their relay race. You are all so amazing!

Silverdale School – Country Show Day – 29 October 2022 – 10am to 2pm
Getting ready for Country Show Day over the holidays!
It is time for the kids to get their creative juices flowing!
Each year we invite our Silverdale kids to create their own Jolly Jar to be sold on CSD. They are very popular – normally sold within the first hour of the day! They are a great treat for the kids, or to stash away for that office secret Santa.
This is a great school holiday activity. Look at Google or Pinterest for inspiration. Bring your creations into school at the start of next term. We are excited to see this year’s batch!
Alternately, if you would prefer not to contribute items each week, you can deposit a $25 donation per family into the PTA account: 12-3046-0231780-00 before 21 October.
