Pink Shirt Day

On Monday we had a mufti day for Pink Shirt Day. Pink Shirt Day is to raise awareness for anti bullying. At Silverdale School we are big on anti bullying and believe bullying is not right.

We were a sea of pink on Monday as lots of children and staff wore pink shirts. Pink Shirt Day is celebrated annually around the globe, Pink Shirt Day began in Canada in 2007 when two students took a stand against homophobic bullying, after a peer was bullied for wearing a pink shirt. In Aotearoa, Pink Shirt Day works to create schools, workplaces, communities and whānau where everyone feels safe, valued and respected. our beautiful Aotearoa.

Fun Run

On Monday 17 May in conjunction with Pink Shirt Day, we held our annual Whole School Fun Run.  Students were encouraged to wear as much pink as they can find and a gold coin donation to support Pink Shirt Day and their anti bullying campaign.

Year 0-2  fun run was around the school field completing two laps.

Year 3-4 fun run was around a shorter course around Millwater Parkway.

Year 5-6 fun run was around the longer course around Millwater Parkway.

A massive thanks to David Kayes who helped organise the event along with Donna Kitching and Nick Bateman. The majority of the school wore pink and participated in the fun run and had a great time. Even the teachers had a race!

Thank you to everyone who came along to support our runners.

Year 6 at Camp Adair

In term 3 we have planned for our Year 6 students to attend a camp at Camp Adair, Hunua. The date for camp is Wednesday 18 August to Friday 20 August. An information evening is being held on Wednesday 19 May at 6.30pm – 7.00pm in Room 32/34. The students will participate in a 3 day programme in which various activities will take place in small groups. These activities will provide students with the chance to develop self confidence, learn new skills, develop friendships, face fears, set goals and generally have some good outdoor fun. For many students it will be a time to try something they have never experienced before. The total cost of the camp will be $250. This includes the use of specialist facilities, professional instructors, accommodation, food, activities, equipment and bus transport.

Pink Shirt Day at ezlunch and Kindo

Pink Shirt Day is about working together to stop bullying by celebrating diversity and promoting kindness and inclusiveness.

At ezlunch and Kindo we’re keen to support Pink Shirt Day. We know many schools use this opportunity to focus on the topic.

The ezlunch supplier at your school has added a Pink themed food item to show support. These will show on your menu for ordering this week for Friday delivery only.
