Silverdale School Board of Trustees/Poari Whakahaere
NEWSLETTER 17 December 2020
Kia ora Parents, Caregivers, Students and Staff,
2020 has been a year that we will not forget, it has been a year of firsts, it has been unique, and it has been hard but through this whole year our school has come together as a community helping everyone to be the best they can be. Our staff and students have shown all our KERI values during this time, Atawhai/Kindness, Hiranga/Excellence, Whakaute/Respect and Ngākau/Integrity.
We would like to especially thank our Principal Cameron Lockie for everything he did to get our online learning available to all our students while we were in Lockdown and with the help of our Deputy Principals, Kat Porter, Lynn Scott and Laura Webster and all our Team Leaders and staff, the learning for our students continued throughout the year.
We finished the year with 863 students at our school, and we would like to thank the parents and caregivers of the children in our school for the support you have given this year, it has been incredible. Especially to all those parents, grandparents and friends of the school who volunteer their time to the school, we really appreciate it. Thank you to our parents who have paid their donations this year, it does make a difference to our school when we receive the donations, and it allows us to purchase resources for your children.
Yesterday I went to the Year 6 Leavers Assembly and it was really lovely seeing all the 108 Year 6 students. We wish you all the very best at the schools you have chosen and in your future years, good luck and make us proud.
We are very proud to announce that our Principal Cameron Lockie and Gillian Bray from Wainui School are the new Dual Leaders of our Orewa Kāhui Ako.
We would like to thank our PTA for all their hard work this year, this year there have not been as many fundraising opportunities, but they have worked very hard in the events that were held and were still able to donate to the school an amazing $55,000 which will go towards resources for our children. Country Show Day was able to go ahead and it was an amazing event again and a huge number of people outside our community attended and commented on how great the day was. Jay Menzies is stepping down from the PTA and we would like to especially thank her for the many years of helping in the PTA and working tirelessly for our school.
We are so lucky to have a Principal like Cameron Lockie, his dedication, professionalism and vision he has for Silverdale School along with the wellbeing of all our students and staff, is incredible so thank you Cameron.
Our Deputy Principals Kat Porter, Lynn Scott and Laura Webster. Their enthusiasm and commitment in their roles are invaluable to our school and we really appreciate everything that you do.
We would like to thank our Team Leaders Rebeccah Bassett-Smith, Eleanor Wenman, Naomi Gillam, Mel Pollard, Sarah Betts and Anna Lojek and all our wonderful teachers, teacher aides and all our support staff, they all do such a fantastic job with the extra activities they help with over the year, it is really appreciated by us all.
Sadly, we are saying goodbye to some of our staff members, we wish you all the best in your next adventures. Also leaving is Rebeccah Bassett-Smith who has been at the school for 15 years and has been an amazing teacher and leader and we wish her all the best at her new position as Deputy Principal at Sunnynook Primary School.
