Schools and early learning services are closed until midnight Friday 14 August. Only children of parents and caregivers working in essential services are able to come to school.

Please do not send your child to school unless you are an essential worker.

The school and playgrounds are closed to the community until midnight Friday 14 August.

Distance Learning will not be operating this week.

Masks are not required at schools and early learning services at Alert Level 3.

I will keep you updated as further information becomes available and will outline any further procedures that we will follow.

Congratulations to Kate Rowe who raced in the recent 365 schools snowboard event at Snow Planet. Kate won gold in year 5 girls division.

Thank You

Thank you to Fulton Hogan for installing bollards at Gate 2. Just a reminder that this gate is a no entry gate.

Traffic Concerns

As you are aware there has been a lot of concerns regarding the Millwater Parkway and Bankside intersection, in particular red light running.

Auckland Transport Traffic Operation team have been out to check the intersection and observed a number of vehicles speeding and also a significant number running the red lights. These are not only trades people but also parents with children in their cars.

Please make sure that you stop on the yellow light at the traffic lights outside of school. Before and after school is a busy time with children and parents using the lights to cross the road, we do not want an accident to occur because you run the red light. Please reduce your speed and look out for children. A yellow signal means stop, unless you are so close to the intersection that you can’t stop safely. A yellow signal indicates that the lights will soon turn red. If you fail to do this then the penalties are $150 fine and 20 demerit points if you fail to slow down and stop when traffic lights turn yellow (unless you cannot stop safely).

What Did You Do At School Today?

What did you do at school today? How many times have you asked that question and got the reply “nothing”? A useful way for students to reflect on their learning experiences at school is to ask them the following questions.

  • What’s going well at school?
  • Which was the hardest part of your day?
  • How did you deal with it?
  • How else could you have done it?
  • What could you do when you are stuck on new learning?
  • What would have made that easier for you?
  • What mistakes did you make that you can learn from?
  • Is there anything else you know that might help?
  • How could you help someone else with their learning?
  • How did it feel when you had finished?

Silverdale School Flippa Ball, Sunday August 9th

The Silver Fins played the Silverdale Strikers tonight. The entire team once again played an outstanding game, demonstrating solid passing and good decision making. A few midfielders Jack, Julian and Morgan were on hand to support Alice Bauld, our star Striker, and proved successful at putting away some goals. Our defence and attack were put to the test a few times, but overall the opposition, while strong in parts, were no match for the defence of Blake, Jamie, Alissa, and Zack, the majority of whom, along with the rest of the team, have been playing together for three seasons now.  This experience was evident when at final whistle the Fins scored a landslide victory of 12-0.  Goals: Alice Bauld 5, Jack Wooller 2 (his first goals after only recently joining the team), Morgan Lusher 3, Julian Beall 2.  Player of the Day this week went to Morgan Lusher (pictured). Morgan demonstrated superb accuracy and confidence in her shooting, actively participating in all areas of play, and overall was a valuable participant helping to bring it home! Well done Morgan, and congratulations team.
